Bakers Association Defend Introduction Of Labels

Kumasi, Aug. 4, – Madam Theresa Tabi, President of the Ghana National Bakers Association, has said that the association is right in asking members to provide labels for their bread. She said those kicking against the introduction of the labels are the people who want to hide behind the association ”to do their own thing to amass wealth at the expense of consumers”. Madam Tabi was addressing members of the association at a meeting at the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi at the weekend. She told members to report to the police anybody who challenges them for labelling their bread. The association is not perturbed because it has legal backing for using labels, she said, adding that the labels are for individual members and not all bakers. Miss Theresa Konadu, national organiser, said the introduction of the labels is to promote the sales of members and also to distinguish their bread from others. Miss Comfort Birago, the Ashanti Regional president of the association, in a welcoming address, called for unity among members and support for the executives.
