BAK district celebrates Tuberculosis Day

Kuntanase-Ashanti, May 01, GNA – Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Directorate of Health Services recorded 60 cases of Tuberculosis (TB) in 2005 as against 52 cases in 2004.

Mr Reuben Bedzrah, District Nutrition Officer, announced this at a durbar to mark TB Day at Kuntanase.

The durbar was to sensitise the people about the disease to enable them report early detection of an outbreak at health facilities for treatment.

He said stigmatisation had been identified as a major threat against the disease and urged the public to reduce the stigma attached to it.

Mr Bedzrah said treatment of the disease was free and called on TB patients to report at hospitals or health centres for treatment. Mr George Ampaw, District TB Co-ordinator, commended Community-Based Surveillance Volunteers in the district for their efforts in educating the people on health issues. Madam Beatrice Adjei, a Principal Nursing Officer, said the District Health Management Team (DHMT) would adopt effective measures towards treatment of TB and other diseases. She appealed to relatives of TB patients not to shun them because they could be cured when they continued with the treatment. 01 May 06
