Mr James Gunu, District Chief Executive of Akatsi-North, and the Ave-Dakpa Police on Thursday night intercepted a 38-seater benz bus with 91 bags of cocoa beans heading for Heve in Togo.
On the bus were 61, 50 kg bags and 30, 100kg bags of cocoa beans respectively, allegedly being carried from the Eastern Region.
Mr Gunu, told the Ghana News Agency that he had a tip-off at about 2130 hours on Thursday night and quickly informed the police.
He said together with the police, they chased the bus to Yegbekorfe, a border community where the bus got stuck in the mud, and they arrested the driver, Peter Afomana, 41, and Emmanuel Sorga, 40, owner of the cocoa beans.
Mr Gunu said the two were in police custody at Ave-Dakpa, while the police continued searching for the drivers’ mate.
