Baby dumped by mother at Mempeasem in Salaga

A two-week old baby believed to have been abandoned by the mother at about 7pm on Tuesday June 6, 2017 has been found by residents of Mempeasem, a suburb of Salaga in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region.

“My wife heard the cry of a new born baby around our house when we were done with our ‘Magrib’ prayers and when she went out to check, she found a baby of about two weeks old wrapped in a cloth and abandoned behind my house” an eyewitness Tahiru Saaka said.

The incident has since been reported to the custodian of the land “Kasawura” in line with custom who picked and sent the child to the police station for police investigations to commence.

Residents of the area have been angered by the act by the runaway mother and condemned every reason that might have compelled her to dump the baby and are calling for leads from residents to track her down.
