Baba Jamal: KT Hammond’ behavior was dishonorable

The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Baba Jamal has christened the dramatic turn of events on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, as one of the “dark days” in the history of the Ghanaian Parliament.

He made these comments while addressing the fracas that ensued between Kwabena Tahir Hammond, Adansi Asokwa MP and the Majority leader of Parliament, Dr. Benjamin Kunbour.

It all started when Dr. Kunbour, who is also the MP for Lawra-Nandom, attempted to admonish the August House to fight corruption.

In his submission, he made allusions to the fact that the ‘Woyome case and the Drill Ship saga’ deepened the perception that politicians are corrupt and Parliament must been seen leading the war to correct that slant.

But a fuming K. T Hammond, who was a Deputy Minister of Energy in the erstwhile Kufuor administration and the one who spearheaded the sale of the Drill Ship, labeled his colleague, who he later called described as a very good friend, as “foolish, Stupid, Nonsense and useless” for referring to the issue of the Drill Ship as one of the cases that has amplified the slant that politicians are corrupt.

He however, could not understand why reference to the Drill Ship, which was sold in 2001, be made since Ambassador Chris Kpodo has cleared the air on the whereabouts of the proceeds of the sale.

But in the words of Baba Jamal, who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Ben Kunbour’s comments did not merit such vicious attack from the MP for Adansi Asokwa.

“…that is very, very dishonorable and all of us as Parliamentarians feel very, very ashamed and I think that we should all apologize to Ghanaians for this very unfortunate happening in Parliament,” Hon. Baba Jamal posited on Metro TV’s ‘Good Morning Ghana’ programme.
