Baah-Wiredu assesses educational needs of new districts in UWR

Wa, Nov. 17, GNA – Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports on Tuesday began a four-day tour of the three new districts in the Upper West Region in order to assess their educational needs.

During the tour the Minister will visit the Wa West, Wa East and Sissala West Districts, which have Wichiau, Funsi and Gwollu respectively as their district capitals.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Wa, the Minister said the visit is to enable him identify and to prepare a comprehensive assessment of the needs of the new districts and other logistics.

Mr Baah-Wiredu said he would also be looking into the establishment of one model senior secondary school at each of the districts. Others included residential accommodation for both teachers and students, as well as office accommodation for the district directorate of the Ghana Education Service.

He said fund from the GETFund would be made to provide the needed infrastructure and logistics, using the formula for allocation to the district under the GETFund.

Mr Baah-Wiredu had earlier visited and interacted with officials and staff of institutions and organisations under his ministry in Wa. They included the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Office, National Youth Council, the National Sports Council; and the Issa Youth Leadership Training Institute.
