Baah gets the nod to contest parliamentary ticket

Kumawu (Ash), Sept. 13, GNA – Mr Yaw Baah, NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu, has been re-elected by the party to contest the parliamentary seat in the December polls. The 97 polling stations chairmen of the party in the constituency gave him the nod by acclamation at a special delegates conference held at Kumawu on Sunday.

It was witnessed by some top officials of the NPP in the Ashanti region, including the first Regional Vice-Chairman, Mr Osei Asibey and Mr Sam Cudjoe, the Regional Secretary, and was supervised by the Electoral Commission.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Baah told the party’s foot soldiers to avoid complacency and maintain the same level of perseverance, alertness and courage that brought the NPP into power in the 2000 elections.

He stated that the December polls was crucial to the party in that it would be seeking to make history by winning its second term of office after completing its first full term.

Mr Baah said this, therefore, called for total commitment, loyalty and hard work from all the supporters.

The MP for Akwapim South, Mr Wiafe Danquah appealed to the national leadership of the NPP to act quickly to resolve all problems arising out of the constituency primaries before it launches its election campaign.

“It is important that we do not underestimate our political opponents. Let us make sure that we maintain a strong and united front so as to win the coming elections convincingly”, he added.

Mr Asibey on his part, said, the focus of the party was to work tirelessly to reduce the percentage of popular votes for its opponents in the region.

He said there were strong indications that this would be achieved to enable the NPP chalk a first round resounding victory.
