BA Women’s Wing of NPP donates to Sunyani Prisons

Sunyani (B/A), Jan. 5, GNA – Brong-Ahafo Regional Women’s Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday presented items worth more than two million cedis to the female inmates of the Sunyani Prisons. The items were second-hand clothing, loaves of bread, fruits, biscuits, children’s wear and bed-sheets.

Mrs Felicia Appiah, Regional Women’s Organiser, presenting the items said the donation followed an appeal made by the prison’s authorities through a local FM radio station to the public to assist inmate nursing mothers and their children.

She encouraged the inmates not to regard themselves as rejected because of their current conditions but to feel as being part of the society since they were still recognised as Ghanaian women. The Women’s Organiser advised them to allow Christ into their lives to get reformed before their release from the prisons in order not to repeat their past mistakes.

Mrs. Appiah gave the assurance that the donation being the first of its kind would not be “a nine-day wonder” and that more would be made in due course.

Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Hanna Asiamah, Acting Officer in-charge, thanked the women for the gesture and urged other benevolent groups to come to the aid of the inmates.

In a related development, the Women’s Wing presented similar items worth about five million cedis to the Biadan Orphanage at Berekum District as part of the Christmas celebrations.
