B/A’s Mathias Hospital records 1,009 deliveries

Mathias Catholic Hospital at Yeji in Pru district of Brong-Ahafo recorded a total of 1,009 supervised deliveries as at the end of June.

Whiles sixty of the deliveries were live births, 49 were still births, Mr. Nobert Apuri, Human Resource Manager of the Hospital attributed the still births to late referral and arrival of labour cases from villages, community clinics and health centres to the hospital.

He said this at the mid-year performance review meeting of stakeholders of Techiman Catholic Diocesan Health Directorate in Nkoranza at the weekend.

Mr. Apuri commended pregnant women in the communities for their regular visits to health institutions for ante-natal care and to the public health nurses and midwives he lauded them for carrying out educational programmes to promote ante-natal and post-natal clinic attendance among nursing mothers in the District.

He said Mathias hospital served as a referral centre for about seven other health facilities in the district but referred serious cases to either the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman.

Mr. Apuri said 127 deaths of 82 males and 45 females had been recorded at the hospital and the figure included 33 children aged below five and four maternal deaths.**
