B/A chiefs school residents on healthy lifestyles

President of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Pemapem Yaw Kagbrese V, has called on the general public to desist from any unsanitary acts that may contribute to disease outbreak.

Pemapem Yaw Kagbrese, who is also the Omanehene of Yeji Traditional Area, entreated the people of the Brong Ahafo region to embrace the National Sanitation Day Exercise instituted by the local government and rural development ministry to curb unhealthful conditions from their environment.

He said combating unsanitary conditions in the country was a collective responsibility which should not be left to few people, and thus called on all stakeholders to up their game in fighting against filth in the country.

The Yeji omanhene also told Today after the last Saturday’s sanitation exercise in Sunyani that: “I’m overwhelmed by the large numbers of people who came out to
patronise the exercise on Saturday, September 5th, 2015.”

For his part, Sunyani Omanhene, Nana Bosuma Asonkeraweri, recounted that Sunyani as a city was always clean, adding that that made it to be acclaimed the cleanest city in Ghana.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, stated that he was very impressed by the huge turnout.

He, therefore, advised residents of the region to keep up with their enthusiastic spirit towards communal labour so as to fight against diseases.

The ministry also supplied about 10,000 waste bins and other sanitation logistics to be placed at public places in all the districts/municipalities in the region before the exercise.

The National Sanitation Day exercise was launched last year under the auspices of the local government and rural development ministry to rid the country of filth and unsanitary conditions and it takes place on the first Saturday of every month.
