Azorka Boys arrested at NDC Congress

Nine well-built men, suspected to be Azorka boys from the Northern part of the country, were arrested by the police in Kumasi on Friday for allegedly assaulting a security officer.

The nine men, believed to be members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), reportedly took the law into their hands as they attacked people without provocation and blocked roads. Fear-stricken people had to stay far away in order to avert being hurt.

In what can be described as a real display of power, the nine men, said to be wielding offensive weapons, reportedly created chaotic scenes in the hitherto peaceful city.

The miscreants were finally arrested after they reportedly smashed the windscreen of the security man who had questioned them over the blocking of a busy road near the Baba Yara Stadium – venue of the NDC national delegates congress.

When contacted, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, said it was true that nine stoutly-built men were apprehended by the police.

He, however, could not confirm whether they were Azorka boys or not, disclosing that the nine men were detained on Friday and granted police inquiry bail on Sunday.

Delving deep into the case, ASP Tanko noted that the nine ‘macho men’ blocked the road in front of the stadium, which naturally created problems for people, notably drivers.

He said a security man appeared on the scene with his car only to see the nine men blocking the road, so he alighted and challenged the nine men about their authority to do that.

ASP Tanko said the ‘macho men’ became incensed about the security man’s action, so they smashed the windscreen of his vehicle. The security man reported the matter to the police, leading to their arrest
