Ayikoi Otoo sues EC again

A former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Nii Ayikoi Otoo has led one James Amarh Martey to file a fresh writ against the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General over attempts to create 45 new constituencies.

A revised Constitutional Instrument was recently re-laid before Parliament to give legal backing to the new constituencies.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo says he earlier withdrew contempt charges against the Electoral Commission because he assumed the Commission would probe further before relaying the revised Constitutional Instrument before Parliament after the withdrawal of the initial Instrument which was error-riddled.

The former Attorney General in an interview with XYZ News said checks on the CI currently before Parliament reveal that the electoral areas backing the constituencies were created by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development instead of the Electoral Commission.

He is therefore petitioning the Supreme Court to declare the electoral areas backing the constituencies unconstitutional.
