Legal Practitioner and staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ayikoi Otoo, has strongly opposed the position held by the Attorney General, Dr. Benjamin Kunbour over his decision not to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament on Tuesday.
The AG had earlier argued it would be highly contemptuous in the face of the law to discuss the GHC 51 million judgement debt case which was paid to Alfred Woyome, a businessman.
The matter is currently before court.
“Refusing to attend to PAC is contempt of Parliament and that should not be coming from the Attorney General. You should appear in court and then raise the plain objection that you want to take because the power is there to enforce the attendance of witnesses and examine them on oath, affirmation or otherwise and to compel the production of documents,” Mr. Ayikoi Otoo told an Accra based radio station.
He stressed: “[The position and behavior] of Dr. Kunbour amounts to contempt of Parliament” adding that “a Constitution is not an ordinary act which should just be given an interpretation;… You have to take a lot of things into consideration,” he added.
