Ayerede residents enact bye laws

Ayerede (B/A) Sept. 18 GNA- Residents of Ayerede in the Nkoranza District have enacted bye-laws aimed at enhancing the development of the community.

Ms. Rose Appau, Assemblywoman, told the Ghana News Agency at Ayerede on Tuesday that, domestic livestock owners had been made to keep their animals in pens and defaulters would be made to pay a fine. She said with the exception of sheep and goats, which would be allowed to graze between 1200 hours and 1800 hours, others such as stray pigs would be shot by community leaders and their owners fined 20 Ghana Cedis (200,000 cedis) for each animal killed.

Bicycle riders have also been banned from riding in the night without headlights or brakes, Ms Appau added. The Assemblywoman said school children had also been banned from attending public entertainments like video centres, dances and concert shows whilst spinners at funeral grounds had been advised to close by 1900 hours.

On environmental sanitation, Ms Appau said any youth caught defecating by the roadside in the town would be made to pay a fine of GHC20 (200,000 cedis) and could also be prosecuted at the courts. Residents who refuse to participate in communal labour activities as well or general meetings convened by the chiefs and elders or community leaders through the gong-gong beater would pay GHC20 (200,000 cedis).

Ms. Appau urged the people to be disciplined and abide by the bye-laws, which were meant to help improve their livelihood and to enhance the development of the community.
