Ayekoo to farmers: Over 70 farmers to be rewarded today

Today the 5th of December 2014 marks another day set aside to celebrate hard working farmers and fisher folks all over the country.

The National Farmers Day is commemorated each year on the first Friday of December to honour gallant farmers and fisher folks and acknowledge the vital position they occupy in the nation’s socio-economic development.

The state uses the occasion to also acknowledge the untiring effort farmers and fisher folks put in to feed the growing population, providing raw materials to the nation’s industries and contributing substantially to the nation’s foreign exchange earnings.

Prizes are awarded to deserving farmers and fisher folks in order of best practices and outputs.

The 30th National Farmers’ Day celebration will be on the theme: “Eat what you grow.”

The National Farmers Day celebration was established by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to honour the nation’s hard working farmers.

Over 70 farmers will be recognised for their contribution to agriculture and the economy of Ghana.

In 2013, 58-year-old Alhaji Awudu Karim from the Kasena Nankana District of the Upper East region was adjudged the National Best Farmer.
