Bolgatanga, Feb. 24, GNA – The Reverend Dr. Jacob Ayeebo, Head of the Anglican Diocesan and Development Relief Organisation (ADDRO), was on Tuesday elected the Upper East Region’s representative on the Council of State.
He polled 9 nine out of a total of 18 votes cast by the Electoral College, made up of two representatives each from the region’s nine districts.
Mr. Robert Atubuga, retired educationist and journalist, polled seven votes, Madam Hilda Salifu, Second National Vice Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), polled 2 votes and Madam Melanie Kasise, a retired educationist had no vote. Dr. Ayeebo, also the immediate past Presiding Member of the Bawku West District Assembly, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him, and pledged to put his services at the disposal of all the people of the region.
He said “I will employ my personal competences in the search for lasting solutions to the problems confronting the people of the Upper East”.
On tackling the development gap between the northern and southern parts of the country, Dr. Ayeebo said he would prevail on President John Evans Atta Mills to consider designing a pragmatic development plan for the particular.
The election was supervised by staff of the Regional office of the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Mr. Godwin Tawiah Okley, Deputy EC Regional Director. 24 Feb. 09
