Ayariga forced to read apology letter in Parliament

Speaker of Parliament Mike Aaron Oquaye on Friday, April 7 had to cajole Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Mahama Ayariga to read a letter of apology written over the bribery allegation against the Appointments Committee.

Mr Ayariga had failed to impress the Speaker on March 30 in the plenary after the five-member ad hoc committee found him guilty of contempt and asked that he apologized.

“With magnanimity in mind I gave Honourable Ayariga an opportunity to apologise again,” Speaker Oquaye said on Friday.

He indicated that the former minister of state had written to him to render an unqualified apology. But after being asked by the Speaker to apology, the Bawku Central MP rather chose to do so extempore.

This got the Speaker to get Mr Ayariga a copy of the letter to be read in the hearing of all other members. “He has done so,” the Speaker insisted.
