Awutu-Effutu-Senya District recorded 55 fire disasters last year

Winneba, July 9, GNA – The Awutu-Effuty-Senya District of the Central Region, recorded 55 fire disasters last year.

Mr Bartholomew K. Nketsiah, District Fire Officer, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency, at Winneba on Thursday, said 39 of the cases were domestic and bush fires.

He said 17 disasters have occurred in the District between January and June, this year and expressed the hope that with intensive public awareness campaigns, the situation would be drastically reduced. Mr Nketsiah asked leaders of the transport unions to organize educational programmes, to orientate their members on the proper maintenance of their vehicles and the need to equip them with fire prevention equipment.

He also called for public support to assist the Ghana National Fire Service to protect the vegetation against fire. 06 July 04
