Awutu Bontrase (C/R), March 10, GNA – More than six months after the extension of power and installation of a transformer at Awutu Bontrase to provide the community with electricity, the power had not been connected to individual houses due to absence of service poles. This is because about 70 concrete poles prepared by the people had been declared unsuitable for the project, according to the Assemblyman for the area, Mr. Daniel Asomani and the Bontrase Youth Association chairman, Mr. Kwame Ayeah.
The two were briefing the Ghana News Agency after conducting reporters round to inspect the concrete poles and the installed transformer at Awutu Bontrase on Wednesday.
They held that the community would not be able to raise additional money to purchase poles because of the high poverty facing them and therefore appealed to the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly and the Ministry of Energy to help them secure poles to complete the project. They also appealed to the National chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Haruna Esseku, to redeem his promise of providing them with 50 poles.
They said that the huge investment made by the government in extending high-tension power from Awutu Beraku to the town would be meaningless if the power did not get to their houses. The community requires at least 80 poles to connect power to individual houses.
