Awuni withdraws suit against Fortiz, SSNIT and BoG

Anti-corruption campaigner Andrew Awuni has withdrawn his first suit at a High Court concerning the sale of Merchant Bank.

The suit was against the Bank of Ghana, SSNIT and Fortiz Equity.

Mr. Awuni is challenging the sale of SSNIT’s 90 per cent stake in Merchant Bank to Fortiz but needs an injunction to stop the sale.

Counsel for Andrew Awuni, Egbert Faible Junior told the court Tuesday that they are withdrawing because they have filed a new writ at the commercial court.

The Defendants asked for a cost of five thousand Ghana Cedis to be awarded against Mr. Awuni but the court Presided over by Justice L. L Mensah awarded 200 Ghana Cedis as cost.

Meanwhile, the 13 Parties in the case at the commercial court are taking turns to challenge the locus of Mr. Awuni to take the matter to court.

The court will rule on the matter Wednesday December 18.
