Awuah-Dumase Traditional Council threatens to take back its building

The Awuah-Dumase Traditional Council in the Sunyani West District of Brong-Ahafo, has threatened to take over the council’s palace currently being used by the Assembly as its administrative block.

The council has officially written to the Assembly to rent the building it has been occupying free of charge since its inauguration in 2008.

Nana Kwame Korang II, Omanhene of Awuah-Dumase, told journalists at Odumase Number Two that the assembly had not carried out any renovation on the palace-turned administrative block.

He said almost all the water closet facilities in the building had broken down and the roofing of the building was leaking.

Nana Korang expressed worry about the low level of development in the area, and said “Not a single development project has been executed in the town since the Assembly was carved out of Sunyani Municipal Assembly”.

He expressed regret that for the past three-and-half years, the Assembly has disregarded the council in taking certain decisions, and cited that recently the assembly did not inform the council about a special meeting that confirmed Mrs. Agnes Kusi as the new Chief Executive of the district.

Nana Korang said the district lacked a hospital, good roads and water system as some of the problems the people.

When the Ghana News Agency contacted Mr. Henry Boateng, the District Engineer, he confirmed that no project had been completed in the area, but the Assembly intended to rehabilitate the administrative block.**
