Awiensu: 2 boys poison granny

Police at Assin Fosu have arrested two boys, both aged 11, for lacing their grandmother’s food with poison.

The incident occurred at Assin Awiensu in the Assin North District of the Central Region Monday February 15, 2016.

Narrating the story to Accra News Wednesday February 17, the assemblyman for the area, Thomas Owusu said the two, who lived under the care of their grandmum, stole a tuber of yam belonging to her while she was away.

The two, fearing punishment from the elderly woman, hatched a plan to spike her pot of soup, which was on fire at the time, with the insecticide she used on her farm.

In the evening of the same day, while she took the poisoned food, one of the grandchildren confessed to adding poison to the soup.

The old lady, alarmed, reached for a lantern from her room to get a clearer view of the soup and realised it was of an unusual colour.

Thus, he reported the matter to some elders and opinion leaders in the town who relayed the information to the Assin Fosu police. They subsequently picked up the two and handed them over to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) for investigations.
