Avoid weight-gain through healthier eating – Ghanaians urged

Accra, Feb. 2, GNA – Mrs Yvonne Nduom, a Management Consultant, on Monday urged Ghanaians to adopt healthier eating habits to avoid weight gain and illnesses associated with poor eating habits. “You must enjoy good foods, but the dosage is what counts,” she added.

Mrs Nduom speaking at the launch of the first anniversary of ‘Issues of Life- Healthy Cooking, for Healthy living’ a television health magazine programme, cautioned Ghanaians to disregard junk foods, which are usually expensive as compared to the local leaves, vegetables and other diary products. She noted that some of the utensils used domestically contained mineral or chemicals that could be harmful to human health. “I strongly recommend that you use non-stick and iron-coated utensils,” she advised. Major (RTD) Courage Quashigah, former Minister of Health said the Ministry’s policy on Regenerative Health was aimed at addressing some of the health problems the nation had to tackle. He called for the re-introduction of home economics and cookery as core curriculum areas of study.

Ms Diamond Agbeke, Chief Executive Officer, Rich Diamonds Production and Hostess of the programme said it was initiated to improve the eating habits of Ghanaians. She noted that discipline is key to achieving a healthy living adding, “It is not easy to stop eating the foods you like but be determined and have the will power to live a healthy life”. Ms Agbeke said the programme would continue to educate and advocate for good eating habit among Ghanaians.
