Avoid bushfires this season -NADMO Cordinator

Nkoranza (B/A) Dec. 20, GNA – Mr. Kwasi Baffoe, a NADMO Coordinator in-charge of Donkro-Nkwanta Zone in Nkoranza district of Brong-Ahafo has appealed to people in the area to be careful when handling fires during the harmattan season to avoid bushfires.

In an interview with Ghana News Agency, he said officials from the organization had begun visiting communities in the district to further sensitize the people to prevent bushfires. He urged farmers to prepare fire belts around their farms and to engage local fire volunteers in preparing their new farmlands to prevent

fire from spreading to other areas. Mr. Baffoe announced that the Nkoranza District Assembly had decided to present awards to communities that would protect their areas against bushfires.

In a related issue, Mr. Kwaku Agyapong, NADMO Zonal Coordinator for Bonsu, near Nkoranza, has commenced fire volunteers in the zone for a good job done in preventing bushfires in the communities last year. The Bonsu zone comprises Dotobaa, Asonkwaa, Koforidua, Bibiani, Ahensaase, Beposo and Adjeikrom.

Mr. Bonsu said because there were no bushfires in the area last year, farmers reaped good yield.
