Accra, Dec 2, GNA – The Crisis Management Unit of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Tuesday undertook a four-hour mock aviation security crisis management exercise at the Kotoka International Airport.
The exercise, which took the form of hijack of an airplane and subsequent rescue of passengers, was to evaluate the unit’s preparedness and response readiness of the airport authority and the national security apparatus.
The exercise, which was organised under the auspices of the GCAA, was in conformity with the standard and recommended practices of international aviation organisation.
The response unit consisted of the police, military, fire service health personnel and the aviation security.
Dr Richrad Anane Minister of Roads and Transport and national security personnel were on hand to observe the mock exercise.
According Mr Eric Noi, Public Relations Officer of the GCAA, everything went on as planned.
He expressed the hope that when crisis of that nature happens, the unit would be in a position to respond effectively.
