Accra, April 4, GNA – The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has since Sunday been hit with shortage of aviation fuel, resulting in the delays of flight departures.
Most of the major airlines, including Ghana International Airlines, South African Airways, Kenya Airways, as well as the Jordan Aviation, had to reschedule their flights to Monday due to the shortage. A source at the Aviation Fuel Depot at KIA said the shortage was due to the inability of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to meet their full demand.
The source said the airlines were informed to make alternate arrangement before arriving at KIA.
An official of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the shortage to GNA, stressing that the authority had been in contact with TOR since Monday.
He said TOR had given assurance that the situation would normalise by Wednesday.
This is the second time this year that the KIA is hit by the shortage of aviation fuel. The last time a similar situation happened was in February this year.
