Accra, Feb. 23, GNA – All airlines operating from the Kotoka International Airport in Accra now receives full supply of aviation turbine kerosene (Aviation fuel).
This followed receipt of about 7,600 tonnes of fuel from Cote d’Ivoire by the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) last week after more than a month shortage due to technical problems.
Mr George Odum, Airport Manager, told the GNA that TOR had informed them that they had placed an order for additional 10,000 tonnes of aviation fuel to be delivered next week.
He said although the stock received from the refinery lasted for three days TOR replenished the stock daily. “We have informed all our customers about the availability of fuel.”
According to Mr Odum, even though demand for the fuel shot up due to increased flight operation, there was a surge in January 2006, which the oil marketing companies could not meet leading to the shortage. Many of the airline officials the GNA spoke to confirmed Mr Odum’s story and expressed the hope that the technical problems confronting TOR would be resolved.
Mrs Nina Osei Tutu, Country Manager for South African Airlines, said for about a week now they had been receiving normal supply.
