A water project with the capacity to serve a quarter of residents of the Akatsi North District has been inaugurated at Atanve.
It was financed by Ms Christeen Francis, an American philanthropist at the cost of GH¢ 20, 000.
The project involved the repair and mechanization of an abandoned borehole at Ave-Atanve, installation of an overhead tank and laying of pipes to all homes and schools.
Mr. James Gunu, District chief Executive who inaugurated it, said it had come as a big relief for women and children who had to walk long distances looking for water.
He said the government was willing to have individual and corporate well-wishers take part in its quest to send potable water to every area.
Mr. Gunu said the Assembly would extend the water from Atanve to other places.
Togbi Dunyo IV, Paramount chief of Ave-Atanve and elders conferred the title of Mama (Queen) Afiga on Ms Francis to show gratitude of the community.
Togbi Dunyo commended the DCE for his support for the project and appealed to the Assembly to help extend the water to Atanve Number Two, Yegbekope and other communities.
Ms Francis commended the people for their communal spirit which contributed to the early completion of the facility and promised to make the area her second home.
She urged community leaders to plan towards the maintenance of the water system.
