Australian remanded for reckless driving

Tarkwa, Jan 5, GNA – John Robinson Herbert, an Australian working with MANTRAC Company Limited, formerly known as Tractor and Equipment, has been remanded into prison custody by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for careless driving.

He pleaded guilty and he would re-appear on January 07. Prosecuting, Inspector Edward Paddy of Tarkwa Police said on Wednesday January 03, Herbert was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser with his girlfriend and signalled to overtake a taxi in a curve.

The taxi driver refused because there was an oncoming articulator truck. After negotiating the curve, the accused drove recklessly to overtake the taxi although there was another vehicle coming and to avoid collision, the taxi got off the road.

Unknown to Herbert, passengers in the taxi were policemen who chased and arrested him.

The girlfriend of Herbert, Gladys Afeku, has also been remanded into police custody by the same court for resisting arrest and insulting police. She will also re-appear on January 07.
