Aussie Miner Defiles Girl

A fifty-two-year-old expatriate employee of a mining firm in Tarkwa, John Rodney McCallum, has appeared in court for allegedly defiling a primary five school girl. McCallum, an Australian, who was alleged to have been having sex with the victim for the past three months, was asked by a Tarkwa Circuit Court presided over by His Honour, John Ajet Nasam, to deposit ¢50 million as bail with one surety to re-appear on December 13, 2007.

It was disclosed that the accused was a resident of Mile Six Camp, a suburb of Tarkwa in the Western Region, where the victim also lives with her parents. The accused, a supply superintendent, was alleged to have taken the class five girl to his house on 24th November this year and screened a sexy dancing film to her after which McCallum fondled her, put her on a sofa and had sex with her.

After the act, the accused gave the victim GH¢50 (¢500,000) and warned her not to disclose her ordeal to anyone. The alleged affair between McCallum and the victim came to light when the accused was spotted at about 6:30 pm on 29th November, 2007 by some security personnel on duty around Agege Access Road with two girls in his car, heavily drunk.

A police officer, who was among the security personnel, began interrogating them after which the victim confessed that the accused had been having sexual intercourse with her for the past three months.

McCallum was therefore arrested and sent to the Nsuta Police Station where he struggled with the police officers.

Charged with defilement of a child under 16 years, indecent assault and assault on a public officer, the accused was brought before the circuit court. He will reappear in court on December 13, 2007.
