Atwima-Nwabiagya district inaugurates road safety committee

Nkawie (Ash), July 01, GNA – a 14-member road safety committee for the Atwima-Nwabiagya district has been inaugurated at Nkawie. It is the first to be formed and inaugurated in the Ashanti region.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Frank Adu-Poku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who performed the ceremony, said the task ahead was very enormous and that it behoves on all to play major roles to ensure law and order to reduce accidents on our roads. He said even though some accidents were caused through mechanical fault on vehicles, most of them were caused through human error. ACP Adu-Poku disclosed that a total of 943 accidents with 231 deaths were recorded between January and June, this year in the Ashanti region.

Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, said recent spate of accidents in the district was a major source of worry to the district assembly. He announced that the district would soon take delivery of ambulance service vans to deal with emergency situations in the area. Nana Appiah Sarfo-Kantanka I, chief of Asante-Akropong, who chaired the function, appealed to the Abuakwa District Police Command to initiate moves to remove accident vehicles, which had been parked in front of the Abuakwa police station without delay to avert any accident since they pose a great danger. 01 July 06
