Atwima-Mponua hospital recorded 103 anaemic cases

Nyinahin (Ash), Dec. 28, GNA – The Atwima-Mponua district hospital at Nyinahin recorded a total of 103 anaemic cases as at November 2004. However, all the cases were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for effective treatment due to lack of blood bank at the Nyinahin hospital.

Dr Yusuf Adamu Al-Hassan, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, announced this at an end-of-year workers award ceremony at Nyinahin. He said the hospital was faced with a myriad of problems including lack of an ambulance service, laboratory technicians and the numerous uncompleted projects such as the maternity and family planning units. Dr Al-Hassan said the situation had seriously hampered efficient and effective health delivery in the district.

Miss Beatrice Appah, Atwima District Director of Health Services, commended the staff of the hospital for their utmost performance in spite of the numerous problems facing them.

She was particularly impressed about the healthy relationship between management and staff, which had ensured good working relationship at the hospital.

Miss Appah advised the staff to treat all information at the hospital with confidentiality.

She urged the staff who had not registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the district to do so immediately since it would be beneficial to them and their dependants.

Nine workers were honoured for their dedication and hard work to the hospital.

Miss Grace Ayamba, Senior Medical Assistant, who was adjudged the overall best worker, took home a gas cooker, a cylinder and a certificate.
