Nyinahin (Ash), Dec 06, GNA – Opanin Appiah Kubi, a 75-year-old farmer from Kuffour Camp near Nyinahin, was on Friday adjudged the best district farmer at the Atwima-Mponua District’s celebration of the 21st National Farmers’ Day at Nyinahin. He has 238 acres of cocoa, 10 acres of oil palm and 20 acres of plantain.
Opanin Appiah Kubi received a knapsack spraying machine, a piece of cloth, a radio cassette player, three cutlasses and a pair of Wellington boots.
Eighteen other farmers were honoured and were presented with Wellington boots, radio cassette players and cutlasses. Mr Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah, the Atwima-Mponua District Chief Executive, congratulated the award winners for their hard work and dedication not only to feeding the nation but providing the crops that generate foreign exchange for the country.
He advised the farmers to regularly consult agricultural extension officers to enable them get new techniques in agriculture in order to raise their production.
Mr Paul Amo Korang, the District Director of Agriculture, commended the farmers for co-operating with his outfit to organize the first farmers’ day celebration successfully in the newly created district.
He appealed to them to patronize the farmers’ school that has been established in the district specifically for them to update their knowledge and skills in agriculture.
