Nkawie (Ash), Aug 18, GNA – The Atwima District has completed the first phase of projects undertaken with the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Fund at a cost of 520 million cedis.
The projects include the construction of blocks of three classrooms with offices and stores, libraries and sanitary facilities for the Praso and Nagoli communities at a cost of 180 million cedis each. Mr Charles Yeboah, Atwima District Chief Executive, told the GNA that the assembly has also built 16-seat places of convenience at Mpasatia and Barekese at a cost of 80 million cedis each. The DCE said the second instalment of 600 million cedis for the second phase of HIPC projects due for completion by the end of August would ready soon.
He named the projects as the construction of classroom blocks and toilet facilities in some communities including Besease and Nyinahin. Mr Yeboah said the assembly has adopted an aggressive programme to raise the standard of education in the District and that the assembly is sponsoring 70 students in tertiary institutions. He said the assembly is sponsoring 200 teacher-trainees in training colleges who come to teach in the District after the completion of their courses.
