Atwima Assembly assists in construction of household toilets

Nkawie (Ash), Aug. 12, GNA – The Atwima District Assembly is providing 60 households with toilets in 20 communities in the district under the Water and Sanitation Programme of the Assembly.

Mr Samuel Akwasi Awuku, District Community Development Officer, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nkawie on Tuesday that each household would be assisted with 48,000 cedis.

He said under the project, the Assembly in conjunction with the Water Engineering and Development Company (WEDC) of the United Kingdom and TREND would assist landlords to construct their own household toilets.

Mr Awuku named some of the communities as Debrakrom, Gyankobaa, Fufuo, Kumi and Kansakrom.

He said with technical assistance from Mr Brian J. Reed, Assistant programme Manager of WEDC, seven artisans had been trained to construct the toilets.

Mr Awuku said the Assembly would also dig 50 boreholes in the district to improve upon the water situation in the area.
