Takoradi, Dec 13, GNA – The Advocates and Trainees for Women’s Welfare, Advancement and Rights (ATWAR), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) on Tuesday, organised a clinic for members of the Sekondi-Takoradi Drivers Wives Association (DRIWA) at the Accra Station in Takoradi. Drivers and their dependents and the public were screened for high blood pressure, sexual transmitted infections and other minor ailments. The United Nations System Gender Programme sponsored the clinic, under the theme “For the Health of Women, For Health of World – No More Violence”.
Health personnel including a team from the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) manned the clinic. Speaking at the function, Miss Akua Ansah-Ashon, a Director of ATWAR, said the clinic formed part of the organisation’s 16-day activities against gender violence and other issues affecting women and HIV/AIDS. She asked couples to avoid violence in the home and to settle all disagreements amicably. About sixty-nine people were screened during the eight-hour clinic.
