Attorney-General to protect the rights of British juveniles

Accra, July 20, GNA – The office of the Attorney-General Department on Friday expressed displeasure about the publication of pictures purported to be those of two British juvenile suspects being held for narcotic offences in Accra.

A statement signed by Mr Frank Siaw Otu, Public Relations Officer of the Department, said it was an offence under section three of the Juvenile Justice Act 653 to release any form of information for publication that might lead to the identification of juveniles.

It said the Department would not hesitate to take appropriate steps to protect the rights of the juveniles and warned media houses to exercise restraints in their reportage and cooperate with the Department in the interest of justice.
