Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, will address the public on the recently discontinued UniBank case during the Government Accountability Series scheduled for Monday, July 28, 2025.
According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, Dr. Ayine will also provide updates on the government’s asset recovery campaign, known as Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), and shed light on a new legal matter described as “Rumble in the Jungle.”
The press briefing follows the Attorney General’s discontinuation of the UniBank case on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The Attorney-General’s decision to discontinue proceedings against former Finance Minister and founder of the now-defunct uniBank, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, and seven others, has sparked public debate.
The announcement, made on July 22 by Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, cited what the Justice Ministry described as a “significant recovery” of public funds lost during the 2018 financial sector reforms.
The case, The Republic v. Kwabena Duffuor & 7 Others (CR/0248/2020), was one of several prosecutions initiated as part of efforts to address misconduct in the banking sector. Dr. Duffuor had been facing charges including money laundering and unlawful receipt of GHS 663.3 million from uniBank’s accounts.
His legal troubles began after the collapse of uniBank, which was among several financial institutions affected by a sweeping clean-up of Ghana’s banking system aimed at restoring stability and protecting depositors’ funds.
