Attempted seizure of NHIS office in Tamale by suspected NPP supporters

The Northern Region office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has been attacked by men suspected to be supporters of the ruling party.

TV3’s regional correspondent Zubaida Ismail said the attackers numbered about 20. They stormed the offices, she reports, and demanded that workers vacated.

Most workers had to take cover at the Northern Regional Directorate of Ghana Education Service (GES), an eye witness said.

Some clients of the National Health Insurance Scheme who were at the regional office were, however, attacked by the miscreants.

But for the timely intervention of the workers of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), staff and clients of the NHIA would have been badly injured, our correspondent reported. Security has since been beefed up at the offices.
