Atomic Explosion: Sue for compensation – Agyarko to victims

Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has advised victims of Saturday’s gas explosion at Atomic Junction in Accra to head to court for a compensation.

The explosion claimed seven lives leaving over a hundred with varied degree of injuries.

Speaking to Starr News in parliament, the minister argued a civil action against owners of the gas station will be in order.

He, however, rubbished calls for a commission of enquiry to investigate the incident. He explained the fire service is capable of unravelling the cause of the explosion.

Speaking to the yet to be introduced cylinder exchange policy aimed at curbing such explosions, the energy minister stated the agitations of truck drivers against the policy are being addressed.

Also commenting in an earlier interaction with journalists at the inauguration of the governing council of the Ghana Gas Company, he disclosed that the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) had been given the necessary clearance to recruit 200 auditors to ensure safety standards are adhered to at all gas stations across the country.
