Atiwa West MP funds GHC120, 667.00 maternity block

A GH?120,667.00 maternity block built for the Akyem-Kwabeng Health Centre to improve the quality of maternal and child health care in the Atiwa District, has been inaugurated amid fanfare.

It was financed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa West, Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, from his share of the Health Fund.

The block, which took 11 months to complete, provides enough space and a more-friendly environment – to facilitate the normal birth process and give comfort to mothers and their new-born babies.

Mr. Tei Djangmah, the District Director of Health, hailed project and said it could not have come at a better time, as the number of deliveries at the facility keep growing.

From about two deliveries a month in year 2010, the health centre was now recording a monthly average of 22 deliveries.

He advised pregnant women to regularly visit the facility for antenatal care to avoid pregnancy-related complications to save themselves and their babies.

Mr. Djangmah applauded the MP for his tremendous support for health care delivery in the area, citing the construction of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Asaman Tamfoe, Tumfa and Adasewase.

He has additionally funded expansion works at the Enyirensi Government Hospital’s laboratory and constructed an Out-Patients Department (OPD) at the Anyinam Health Centre.

Again, the MP has made available to the district health directorate five power generators, 12 double-door fridges, three laptop computers and two printers to enhance its operations.

Mr. Amoako-Attah said providing access to quality health care was his top priority and pledged to continue to invest in health infrastructure.

He would keep faith with his constituents by making sure that resources meant to transform their living conditions were properly applied.

Mr. Micah Bediako Asare, the acting Eastern Regional Health Director, said the project would go a long way to reduce maternal mortality in the district.
