Koforidua, Sept. 30, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Atta-Twum, the District Chief Executive for Atiwa, has filed his nomination to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary for the Atiwa constituency. Speaking to the Ghana New Agency in a telephone interview in Koforidua on Friday, Mr Atta-Twum said he was optimistic that the delegates would giv= e him the opportunity to represent them once again in next year’s election. He said since he became the DCE for the area he had performed creditabl= y in terms of development projects and that both the NDC and the New Patrioti= c Party (NPP) supporters were happy about his performance. Mr Atta-Twum said though the area was a stronghold of the opposition NPP, he was of the view that judging from what he had done within two years of his administration, he could pull a surprise when given the opportunity to represent the party.
He appealed to the other contestants to advise their supporters to go about their campaign devoid of any tendencies likely to affect the unity of the party before, during, and after the primary. Mr Atta-Twum contested the Atiwa seat in 2008 general election and lost to the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, the late Mr Kwasi Ankoma and lost again to the current MP in a bye-election in August 2010. The NPP has occupied the Atiwa parliamentary seat since 1996.
