Atiwa DCE collapses at Ghana@59 celebration

The District Chief Executive for Atiwa, Emmanuel Atta Twum, collapsed while delivering his Independence Day address at a parade in the Eastern region.

The DCE was representing President John Mahama in his district as Ghana marked its 59th independence anniversary.

Twum, according to Accra-based Joy FM’s reporter Kofi Siaw, lost his stamina halfway into his speech and had to be held by people around him to prevent him from falling.

It will be recalled that the same DCE collapsed during the 30th Farmers’ Day celebration at Akyem Akropong last year.

Reports say the DCE has regained consciousness and has been asked to rest.

Meanwhile, reports have it that 10 students collapsed during the parade in Tamale while 70 others went unconscious in Kumasi.

Prior to the parade day, a 22-year-old teacher at Akyem Nkronso in the Eastern region, Akoto Solomon, died during rehearsal for the parade.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Investing in the Youth for Ghana’s Transformation.”
