Atia community gets borehole

Atia (Ash), July 16, GNA – A 60 million-cedi borehole constructed for the people of Atia in the Ejisu-Juaben district was on Saturday inaugurated at a ceremony at Atia.

The project was undertaken by CHO-Serve, a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in the town with financial support from the German Development Service (DED) of the German Embassy in Ghana.

In an address read for him, Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, the acting Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, commended the NGO for playing a complementary role in the provision of potable water for the people. He said the assembly’s priority was to initiate programmes that would help speed up the development of the district and appealed to the chiefs and people in the community to submit five priority projects to the assembly to be considered in the World Bank Rural Development Project, which would soon take off in the district.

Mr George Okyere, Consultant to the DED, appealed to the people to unite to promote the speedy development of the community. Reverend Maxwell Boakye Agyemang, Executive Director of the NGO, said the borehole would help provide potable water to the people. He said his organisation was currently providing scholarships to about 47 needy but brilliant pupils in the community.
