Atebubu (B/A), Feb. 17, GNA – The Atebubu District office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has organized a community-based educational programme in some selected towns to sensitise the people on human rights.
During the programme, which was under the theme: “The role and functions of the Commission”, the people were taken through topics such as “the rights and responsibilities of school children”, “religious tolerance”, “rights of women and children”, “child maintenance and custody”, “cultural customary practices” and “the functions of the Commission”.
Towns covered were Garidima, Kokofu, Boniafo, Kumfie, Sanwakojo, Afrefreso and Jato Zongo.
Mr Vasco Kwadwo Nyamekye, Atebubu District Director of the Commission, explained to the people that the programme was to ensure the sustenance of a culture of respect and protection of their rights and obligations, which must go together.
It was also to raise and deepen public understanding and acceptance of the role, functions and powers of the Commission. Mr Stephen Oduro, Assistant Registrar of the Commission, advised the people to respect the elderly and advised parents not to give out their girl-children for early marriage but rather they should send them to school.
