Atebubu (B/A), Feb 11, GNA – The Atebubu District Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) handled 1,100 cases last year out of which 1,068 were resolved amicably while 20 cases were forwarded to the Atebubu Magistrate’s Court for enforcement. Three of the cases were referred to Regional Offices of the Commission at Bawku, Cape Coast and Sunyani for arbitration, Mr Vacso Kwadwo Nyamekye, the Atebubu District Director of the Commission, told the GNA at Atebubu on Thursday.

Mr Nyamekye said nine cases were still pending before the Commission.

He said 235 cases of unfair treatment topped the list of cases, with child and spouse maintenance recording 223 cases; breach of contract cases were 214 and debt collection cases being 181. The Commission resolved 39 paternity cases; 30 cases of child custody, 47 ejection cases; 41 cases on utility services; marital misunderstanding was 41 cases, 21 cases of compensation and divorce, 18 cases of forced marriage, two cases of deprivation of education and four cases of interstate succession.

Mr Nyamekye said following numerous complaints about the large number of school dropouts in the District, the Commission had organised a day’s forum for a number of Parent-Teacher Associations to sensitise them on the need to keep their children in school. He appealed for a means of transport to enhance the work of the Commission.
