Atebubu assembly members to boycott elections over curses

Some assembly members of Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region, have vowed to stay away from the upcoming elections for the the confirmation of a newly nominated candidate, for the position of DCE.

Their decision to boycott the election, follows the invocation of curses on them by some angry women of Atebubu last Friday. It will be recalled that some angry women of Atebubu on Friday invoked curses the assembly members in the area. The women also cursed the Local Government Minister, Collins Dauda, General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku.

According to them, the area does not belong to any of them so they should desist from influencing the assembly members from confirming the candidate.

”We the women in this area are now empowered and we will resist any attempt by anyone to impose anyone on us. If anyone of should vote for that candidate, may the god’s strike you dead.” The election is expected to take place on Tuesday. The women invoked the powerful gods in the area to kill any assembly member and the leaders mentioned, should they confirm the said candidate.

Some of the assembly members who spoke to Nyankonton Mu Nsem said, although they are Christians and Muslims, they know that curses work and so they will not risk their lives for anyone. According to them, they will not even go near the ballot box on the election day, since they are not ready to die prematurely.

They told Nyankonton Mu Nsem that, they cannot die and live their wives and children behind, therefore until the curse invoked is revoked, they will not participate in the election. ”Although we worship God, we are afraid to go and confirm the DCE on Tuesday because of the curses invoked on us…I do not want to die and live and children,” one assembly member told Nyankonton Mu Nsem. Another assembly member said, ”I am a Muslim but i will not joke with my life.

Curses are real and works, so i will not risk my life because of the position someone wants. This land is govern by traditional rulers and their traditions and customs works. And if the women have invoked curses on us, i will not pay with my life.”
