Ata Ayi unable to engage Lawyers

Accra, April 7, GNA – An Accra Fast Track High Court on Thursday adjourned to April 21 the trial of Aryee Ayetey alias Ata Ayi and three others charged with robbery and conspiracy because they could not engage defence counsel.
Ata Ayi, who the Police described as a notorious criminal, appeared with Samuel Kweku Anane alias Sammy Tugah, Roger Kobla Abodoga alias Rojay and Raymond Ameh. They are being held for a robbery incident at Dzorwulu.
Their pleas were not taken neither were the facts of the case read because they did not have Counsel to represent them.
They pleaded with the Court presided over Mr Justice Baffoe Bonney to give them time to find Lawyers. The Court obliged.
The Court remanded Anane, Abodoga and Ameh into prison custody and asked that Ata Ayi be remanded into Police custody.
This was after the Court had been informed that Ata Ayi was assisting the Police to investigate other cases.
A large crowd was at the court to catch a glimpse of Ata Ayi, who the Police had declared wanted for several years.
Ata Ayi had earlier appeared before the Adjabeng District Magistrate’s Court on similar charges.
