Asutifi South elects Alhaji Dauda unopposed

Nkaseim (B/A), Jan. 30, GNA – Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister for Transport, would contest the Assutifi South constituency seat in the 2012 parliamentary election on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The 311 NDC Asutifi South delegates acclaimed Alhaji Dauda, unopposed in last the parliamentary primary that was supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) at Nkaseim in Asutifi District of Brong-Ahafo, on Friday.

He said his unanimous confirmation had demonstrated faith and confidence that the delegates had in him as Member of Parliament.

Alhaji Dauda appealed to the delegates and party supporters to unite for victory, and pledged that he would continue to work hard towards the development of the area.

Mr. Sampson Baton Braimah, District Director of the EC, said the impending biometric voter registration was non-partisan, and cautioned political parties against politicizing the exercise.

Mr. Modestus Nuworsu, the NDC constituency secretary, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, explained that unlike the other constituencies in the region, where the parliamentary primaries were held on Saturday January 21, with the permission of the NDC National Executive Committee, that of the Asutifi South was held on Friday, because of the burial and funeral rites of a prominent member of the party in the constituency.

A rally was organised by the constituency executives at Nkaseim to outdoor Alhaji Dauda as the party’s candidate for the December 7 parliamentary election.
