Asunafo North Assembly begins fire prevention campaign

Goaso (B/A), Feb. 4, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service, in collaboration with the Forestry and Wildfire Division and the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, has embarked on educational campaigns to sensitize the people in the area on the dangers and prevention of bushfires.

At a durbar of chiefs and people of Asumura, Mr Ellorm Nsonwaa, Municipal Fire Coordinator, attributed the current changes in the weather pattern to poor forest management and deforestation. He urged the people to desist from indiscriminate felling of trees to protect the environment and warned that the Assembly would not deal leniently with any one found setting bushfires.

Mr Nsonwaa cautioned bee hunters and palm wine tappers to be careful in how they handled naked fire and appealed to the Assembly to help set up fire posts in the communities to check and minimize the spate of domestic and wildfires.
